Re-engineering of news feed system

I have a full time job, so I can’t change things immediately. I was actually following everyones suggestion of getting more news. But looks like I will have to go back and replace the 100 so called “upgraded” news feeds.

I am still not sure why people can’t see that if I add more news sources for each team that you are bound to have different sites writing about the same topic. Can’t please everyone.

I do know that some of them are stories about other teams. Blame Newsnow.com for having an immature algorythym for getting the correct new.

Apologies for the duplicate news entries.

Update: I am home now and have decided to move the database around to allow me to use hand picked new sources for each team. Initially this will be: BBC, Sky Sports and if the teams official site has an RSS feed.

Update 2: I have completed this for the Premier League, Championship and League One. It took 5 hours to do those 3 leagues so League Two and international footy teams will be done in due course. Bare in mind it is valentines weekend so I will be busy untill Sunday evening ;)

Update 3: In addition I have now re engineered the League Two teams. Only International teams left.

Update 4: The international football teams and rugby teams have been updated too. I will add additional international football teams soon.

  1. Some people are never pleased. The trouble with web 2.0 is that everyone wants it their way with the minimum amount of effort. Rather than read the brief description and decide whether or not they’ve read it, they just want to indiscriminately click on links to give them what they want.

Ollie, amazing work so far. It is hard to get the best news, without duplicating, especially when it is automated.

Congrats on the work so far. Will still be following the mighty Spurs!
